The municipal courts handle municipal traffic issues and charges involving municipal ordinances. The county courts handle minor criminal matters and civil matters involving small dollar amounts. The district court handles all other civil and criminal matters. Appeals go to the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court, both of which are in Denver. In addition, the federal government has a trial court and an appellate court in Denver, both handling matters from across the state.
