Bratton Hill, LLC traces its roots to a practice, which began over 100 years ago in Gunnison. At this time, the firm has five lawyers. Dick Bratton has practiced law here since 1958. John Hill joined in 1992 after a career in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Department of Justice, Environment and Natural Resources Division. Marcus J. Lock joined the firm as a partner in August of 2007, after three years at one of Denver's premier litigation firms. The latest addition to the firm is Kevin Lazar, who joined Bratton Hill on February 4th, 2008. The firm is one of the area’s leading legal firms and its lawyers are known for dedicated service to clients through application of the highest standards of the legal profession. In addition, current and former members of the firm have been leaders in the community in promoting and protecting the welfare of the city, county and surrounding region. We practice in water and natural resources law, real estate, business formation and operation, domestic law, litigation, and estate planning and administration. One area of interest to the lawyers in the firm has been the preservation of water for use in the Gunnison River basin and the protection of the rights of water users. Lawyers in the firm have served as counsel to the Upper Gunnison River Water Conservancy District since it was formed. Our lawyers also played an important role in litigation that defeated an effort to divert water from this area to the front range of Colorado. The present chairman of the Upper Colorado River Commission comes from this firm. The firm's lawyers have served on the Colorado Water Resources and Power Development Authority. Our lawyers have also promoted the development of Western State College, which is located in Gunnison, and helped to found the Western State College Foundation. We also helped found the Gunnison Area Community Foundation, which raises money to support nonprofit activities in this region. The firm’s attorneys have participated in the development of the Gunnison County land use code, debates over amendments to the code, debates over grazing and other ranching issues and efforts for economic development in the area. The firm's attorneys participate in a variety of local charitable organizations and programs to provide legal services to low-income citizens. All of the lawyers in the firm were attracted to this area at least in part because it is one of Colorado’s premier locations for fishing, hunting, hiking, skiing and other mountain sports. Although dedicated to the practice of law, the lawyers also take time to enjoy these outdoor activities. Bratton Hill, LLC 232 West Tomichi Avenue Suite 202 Gunnison, Colorado 81230
