Lock rejoined Bratton Hill, LLC as a partner in August of 2007, after three years at one of Denver 's premier litigation firms. Marcus has successfully represented clients against sophisticated opponents in a variety of forums. His practice has included all types of complex civil litigation, but he has placed a particular emphasis on real property litigation, commercial litigation, trade secrets litigation, professional malpractice litigation, and the representation of attorneys in disciplinary matters. He is a member of the Colorado Bar Association's Ethics Committee and has advised numerous lawyers and law firms on sensitive ethical issues. Marcus comes from a strong natural resources background and also has extensive experience in water law and transactional real estate from his previous association with Bratton Hill. His clients have included professional sports teams, doctors, lawyers, judges, public entities, law firms, accountants, investment management firms, ranchers, national and local companies, developers, business owners, individuals, and students. Marcus has served as a law clerk to both Colorado Supreme Court Justice Nancy E. Rice and United States District Court Judge Zita L. Weinshienk. Consequently, he has experience in both federal practice and procedure and a wide range of state legal issues. Marcus's work in the federal and state judiciary allows him to provide his clients with a unique perspective at both the trial and appellate levels. Marcus graduated first in his class from the University of Colorado School of Law in 2001. He also served as an Articles Editor for the University of Colorado Law Review, published two law review articles of his own, and received multiple scholarships and academic awards. Marcus also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Conservation Biology from Arizona State University where he graduated summa cum laude in 1997. Prior to attending law school, Marcus worked as a lobbyist and biologist for the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Marcus has been active in the legal community and has committed substantial time to a diverse range of pro bono causes. When he is not working, Marcus enjoys outdoor recreation and spending time with wife Kellie and their young children in the Gunnison Valley.
